Abstract:

This study uses the CiteSpace bibliometric analysis tool to visually compare and analyze the current research status and hotspots of carbon finance at home and abroad to provide a basis for innovative research on carbon finance at home and abroad. This study is based on 1501 carbon finance-related studies published in two databases, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (1020 articles) and Web of Science (481 articles), from the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol in 2005 until the end of 2023. A knowledge graph was drawn through a quantitative analysis of the annual publication volume, countries/regions, authors, institutional cooperation networks, cited literature, cited journals, keyword co-occurrence, keyword clustering, and prominent keywords. Domestic research closely follows government policy adjustments with significant fluctuations in research enthusiasm. There is a strong correlation between research fields and policy orientation, and researchers and institutions exhibit a state of “large dispersion, small aggregation”. Currently, research is focused on disciplines such as finance, environment and resources, economic management, investment, securities, and market research, and publications are mostly published in financial journals. International research, starting from the characteristics of academic research, progresses layer by layer and gradually deepens. Based on early enlightenment research, fruitful results were achieved in the later stages. Currently, research is focused on fields such as finance, renewable energy, energy transformation, and sustainable development in a variety of published journals. This study expects future research directions to inherit past research hotspots, find a balance between government policy guidance and disciplinary research laws, and help solve practical problems such as carbon emission markets, carbon sink markets, dual carbon targets, and interdisciplinary linkages. This study suggests conducting in-depth compensatory research in the fields of carbon currency, carbon funds, carbon credit, carbon derivatives, and carbon insurance, as well as pioneering research on the localization of carbon pricing power, construction of carbon finance systems, climate change investment and financing, and comprehensive economic development.
