Ecology and Environmental Sciences (monthly) was founded in 1992. It is jointly sponsored by Guangdong Society of Soil Sciences and Institute of Eco-Environmental and Soil Sciences, Guangdong Academy of Sciences. The current Editor-in-Chief is Academician TAO Shu, and the Executive Editor-in-Chief is Professor LI Fangbai.

Ecology and Environmental Sciences is a formally approved academic journal authorized by the former General Administration of Press and Publication of China and is publicly distributed both domestically and internationally, with ISSN 1674-5906 and CN 44-1661/X. The journal aims to promote academic exchange, advance disciplinary development, serve ecological and environmental protection in China and worldwide, and support the sustainable development of ecology, economy, and society. The journal mainly publishes original research articles and major investigation reports with significant innovation and importance in the fields of ecology and environmental sciences from both domestic and international authors. A small number of review and perspective articles that present distinctive insights and theoretical contributions on major frontier issues in these two disciplines are also published. The journal is intended for researchers, teachers, students, and administrators at all levels engaged in ecology, environmental science, resource conservation, geography, agricultural science, forestry, and related fields.

After years of effort, Ecology and Environmental Sciences has gained a certain level of influence and recognition in the fields of ecology and environmental sciences in China. For many years, it has been indexed as a Chinese Core Journal (included in all editions of A Guide to the Core Journals of China from 2004 to 2023), a China Science and Technology Core Journal, a journal of the Core Collection of the Chinese Science Citation Database (Group C in CSCD), and a journal indexed in the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) database and EBSCOhost Research Platform. It has also been included in the “High-Quality Scientific and Technological Journals Classification Directory in the Field of Ecology” (T2) , which corresponds to i.e. world-renowned academic journals, selected by academic societies organized by the China Association for Science and Technology.

Ecology and Environmental Sciences has consistently positioned itself at the forefront of academic research, with a strong focus on theoretical innovation and a distinctive emphasis on the integrative nature of ecology and environmental sciences as well as field-based experimental studies. It has gradually become one of the leading academic journals in the fields of ecology and environmental sciences in China. The journal has received multiple honors, including “China International Influence Excellent Academic Journal” and “China High-Quality Science and Technology Journal.” Since 2001, it has continuously been recognized as an “Excellent Journal of Guangdong Province,” an “Excellent Science and Technology Journal of Guangdong Province,” and a “High-Quality Science and Technology Journal of Guangdong Province.”

Ecology and Environmental Sciences will continue to uphold its publishing mission and respond to the national strategy of building “world-class scientific journals.” It strives to become an academic journal with significant influence and visibility in the global fields of ecology and environmental sciences, thereby making greater contributions to enhancing the scientific and technological competitiveness and cultural soft power of Guangdong Province and China as a whole.
